The Vernadhee Women’s Collective (VWC), a movement of Muslim Women, focusing on women’s rights, justice and equality in 4 districts, (Colombo, Batticaloa, Badulla and Ampara) and working towards a new concept of leadership by supporting the affected women to rise up, identifying their strengths and abilities. While they began their planned activities to achieve the objectives of expanding the VWC membership and strengthening their capabilities in handing matters related to affected women, especially those undergoing cases at Quazi courts.
This women’s Collective was initiated under the concept of ‘Our Realities Speak’; a project under Women’s’ Voice and Leadership of The Asia Foundation (TAF). This is a 4 year project and the first year is targeting an expansion in the number of members in the Vernadhee Women’s Collective, and strengthening the team with many field pocket meetings and coaching sessions conducted by the existing active teams. First refresher meeting for the 4 districts was held on the 27th & 28th of July 2020, as a residential event in Colombo.
