The Muslim Women’s Research and Action Forum (MWRAF) on 8th June 2026 handed over to the Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Honorable Saroja Paulraj, the recommendations from a workshop it convened earlier this year on the proposed changes to the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act (PDVA) of 2005.

MWRAF convened the consultation workshop on 28 January 2026 with stakeholders from across the country to gather evidence-based inputs on the proposed Bill to repeal and replace the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act (PDVA) of 2005. Participants included women’s organizations, representatives from the Police Department, hospital staff from Mithuru Piyasa, Women’s Development Officers, Legal Aid Commission officers, and practicing lawyers. Participants were from the Ampara, Batticaloa, Colombo, Gampaha, Hambantota, Kandy, and Kurunegala districts.

The recommendations were drawn directly from the day’s deliberations and are organised by Bill clause number. They are intended to strengthen the Bill’s protective scope, practical enforceability, and survivor-centred approach.
